Gary Forby has lived his entire life in Southern Illinois, which has shaped his strong values and commitment to our region. Born in Anna, he moved to Benton where he graduated from Benton High School. While maintaining his farm, he decided to start an excavating business, known as Forby Excavating.
During his time as a local business owner, Gary began a lifetime dedicated to serving Southern Illinois families. He has served on the Franklin County Board as well as the Franklin-Williamson Human Services Board and is a current member of the Southern Illinois Workforce Man-Tra-Con Board and has been a member of the Operating Engineers and Laborers’ International unions for nearly forty years.
After serving in the Illinois House of Representatives from 2001-2003, Gary was chosen to fill former State Senator Larry Woolard’s seat in 2003. Since that time, he has fought for Southern Illinois working families and represented the traditions and values that make our region a great place to raise our families.
Gary currently lives in Benton with his four children and one grandchild, and remains active in a number of local organizations, including the Shriners and the Elk’s Club.
